Active adult community

Also called: 55+ community

An active adult community is age-restricted housing, usually 55 and over, that residents own or rent, with amenities but no care services or meals.

Federal law allows the age restriction when at least 80% of occupied units include a resident aged 55 or older. It is a housing choice rather than a care setting.
